Basic Dental Cleaning
Basic Dental Cleaning involves the removal of all plaques and calculus deposits that have build up on the teeth over time. If the calculus is accumulated on the teeth it will, unfortunately, provide the conditions for bacteria to thrive next to the gums. This will eventually become a gum disease if not attended on a regular and proper manner. The purpose of the Dental Cleaning and polishing is to leave surfaces of the teeth clean and smooth so that bacteria are unable to stick to them. This will increase your chances of keeping your teeth clean during your regular home care hygiene.
Full Mouth Debridement
Often times, when patients don’t go regularly to their Dental Cleanings or keep up with their oral hygiene an alternative type of Dental Cleaning, is needed. A dental Full Mouth Debridement is a procedure used to remove extensive plaque and tartar (calculus) buildup, especially when a fair amount of gum line is involved. Due to the amount and thickness of these deposits, it’s difficult for your dentist to gauge accurately whether tooth decay, gum disease or other problems are present and to what degree. Here at Bella Family Dental we allow patients to observe their digital X-ray, through our monitors once their X-rays have been taken. This will determine the extensiveness of the Dental Cleaning that is needed. A regular dental cleaning is great for removing minimal deposits but not aggressive enough to remove years and years of buildup.
Deep Dental Cleaning (Deep Scaling and Root Planning)
When bacteria gets to the point of causing irritated gums, you may notice some bleeding when brushing your teeth or eating. This is a common indicator for an early stage of a gum disease called gingivitis. Not only can it cause serious damage to your teeth if not treated promptly, but can create excessive bleeding and bad breath. If that’s the case our dentist will clean your teeth by scaling and polishing. Root planning is the process of smothering the root surfaces and removing any infected tooth structure. Depending on the depth of the pocket and severity of the root surface irregularity, our dentist may wish to make the area numb so that the process is comfortable for you. Periodontal maintenance is needed every three months until the gums are back to normal.
